Although sport is an effective tool for integration, migrants are underrepresented in Swiss sports clubs.
That is why the Swiss Federal Institute of Sport Magglingen (SFISM) and SA4D ran the “Meeting through movement” (Begegnung durch Bewegung) programme from 2005–2007 in Bern, Biel/Bienne, Nidau and Neuhausen. So what was the idea? Teachers regularly explained local sports activities in schools, to make it easier for children from a migrant background to join sports clubs.
Guidelines for teachers
SA4D worked with 13 partner schools and sports instructors to develop lesson ideas that would familiarise people from a migrant background with sports associations and activities.
This handbook is a compilation of the experiences of all the participating teachers. It is a tool for school teachers who want to build a bridge to sport as a hobby in German/French, sport or cross-curricular classes. The handbook was published in German and French.
