Switzerland is a country of associations. These are open to migrants too – in principle.
In reality, children and young people from migrant families are less represented in many associations than Swiss people who don’t have a second nationality. In other sports clubs, the cultural diversity of the members carries a risk of conflict.
Guidelines for associations
That’s why, between 2010 and 2012, SA4D and the Swiss Federal Institute of Sport Magglingen (SFISM) developed guidelines to support sports associations when working with children and young people from migrant backgrounds. How can associations communicate with these potential members? How can their parents be better included in the life of the society? The guidelines provide answers to these questions.
The guidelines were published in German and French. They are aimed at officials, members and coaches of associations. Sports teachers and migrants helped to develop the guidelines.
