A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE THROUGH INTERACTIVE EDUCATION

SA4D has been active in Cali, a city in southwestern Colombia, since 2018 when it launched a project there. There was previously a decades-long war in the region. Sparse infrastructure and lacking state engagement negatively affect everybody’s living conditions. Children and young people in particular suffer from the situation, which includes violence, criminality and bad options for education.

In cooperation with local partner organisation Grupo Internacional de Paz, SA4D supports the integrative school and training centre in Las Aguas, which provide children and young people who are not supported by the state system with access to schooling and vocational training. SA4D trains the teachers onsite in teaching business skills in an interactive way, adjusted to the needs of the local economy. The project thereby creates a basis for young people to find employment or to develop their own, legal businesses.

“I AM CONFIDENT I WILL ACHIEVE MY GOALS IN THE FUTURE”

Laura is 15 years old and has attended classes in Las Aguas. The business training curriculum developed by SA4D was used in her class. What did she particularly enjoy? “The discussions in the interactive classes! We could take part in different activities and in group work.” Expressing herself was a challenge at first. But she learnt to stand up for her own opinions and to ask questions. “I was really interested in the marketing topics. I’d like to carry on with that.” Her dream is to go on to study marketing. “I am confident I will achieve my goals in the future.”
