Binita is eight years old and lives in a village in south-west Nepal. She has just finished the first year of school with the highest grades. The fact that she is even at school mustn’t be taken for granted. Four years ago, her father emigrated to India looking for work. Nobody has heard from him since. Her mother married another man and left Binita and her younger sister with their grandmother.
Thanks to the Move 4 New Horizons non-formal classes, Binita has managed the transition to school despite all the obstacles. The playful methods really appealed to her, and helped her to develop healthy ambition. “She was very motivated and actively participated in all the lessons,” says Binita’s former teacher, who is not surprised by Binita’s good performance. Her grandmother is proud too: “I’m so happy that Binita is learning to read and write. I never expected her to be the best in the class.”
