In the Dang district of southwestern Nepal, four out of five Dalit children have not completed primary education. The members of this caste are particularly poor, which is why many of them drop out of primary school.

SA4D ran the ‘Move 4 New Horizons’ programme for them from 2008–2015. Over nine months, disadvantaged children between the ages of 5 and 10 were prepared for beginning or returning to regular school. A handbook uses simple language to provide teachers with concrete examples of how non-formal support can be used in schools – not just in Nepal but around the world.

Further aspects of non-formal primary education are covered in the Sport and Play Manual for Facilitators.
