Refugee camp in Uganda. After escaping the war in South Sudan, the refugees are left with nothing. Incessant flashbacks of their experiences impact on their consciousness.

Even routine, daily tasks become herculean for people affected by war and flight. Through sport and play, SA4D offers traumatised women and children a place of retreat, where their worries take the back seat for a while. Participants learn to deal with their trauma and to regain self-confidence.

The Beyond Sport foundation nominated “Women on the Move Uganda” for the “Sport for Refugees Award”, which recognises projects around the world that are using sport to benefit refugees, whether through support or political work. Of 400 submissions from over 100 countries, Beyond Sport shortlisted a total of 35 projects in ten categories.
