“When I heard that we would play some rugby here, I knew I had to come!”
Daniel is 10 and learnt a lot of new things about sexual violence and HIV/AIDS during the two weeks, even though he already knew a little about it. “Now I know how HIV is transmitted, what stigma is and why it is wrong to discriminate against those infected.” He had no idea about sexual assault. “I used to think that sexual violence only meant rape, and I now understand that unwelcome physical contact and comments are also forms of sexual violence,” said Daniel.
“What I liked most was learning all these things by playing, which was also the main reason I even decided to come here. I don’t have space and balls back home to play my favourite sport which is rugby, and when I heard that we would play some rugby here, I knew I had to come.”
