On December 5th 2023, the Foundation Board meet and elected two new members.
After 20 years on the Board of the Swiss Academy for Development (SA4D), Franz-Xaver Hiestand SJ decided to step down. The student counsellor joined SA4D when the Foundation was undergoing a strategic reorientation towards sport and development to become what it is today. “Franz-Xaver has done a lot for SA4D, especially on a personal level. A few words of thanks are not enough for the many conversations that staff and we Board members have had with him,” says Dr Ernst Schläpfer, President of the SA4D Foundation Board. We would like to thank Franz-Xaver for his great commitment over the past years and wish him all the best for the future.
Three new members of the Foundation Board
Additionally, three new Board members – Barbara Epprecht-Kaiser, Roman Egger and Dr André Schaller – were elected on December 5th. The election was a response to the vacant seat and the will to diversify the Foundation Board, and strengthen it in legal, private sector and global political perspective. Dr Schläpfer is looking forward to the future collaboration: “Welcome to the three new people on the Foundation Board. We are all delighted by their commitment to a world in which everyone can actively shape their lives and contribute to an equitable and sustainable future.”
What the new members of the Foundation Board have to say:
- Barbara Epprecht-Kaiser, Attorney and Legal Counsel at UBS:”Education and sport are essential for prosperity and well-being. I have been convinced of this for a long time. As a member of the Foundation Board, I can now make a contribution in line with my convictions.”
- Roman Egger, General Manager of Lima Switzerland SA:“I am delighted to be involved in SA4D. I believe in the positive impact of sport and play on the development of young children and their environment.”
- Dr. André Schaller, Former Swiss Ambassador of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA):”I have seen in practice how concrete cooperation projects make a difference to people. That’s why I’m really looking forward to working with my colleagues at SA4D.”
