Mangwende Orphan Care Trust (MOCT) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Zimbabwe with the goal of supporting disadvantaged people, especially orphans, marginalized women, and people with disabilities. MOCT is well-networked locally, understands the conditions on the ground, and has built a trusting relationship with the communities in the target areas over the years. MOCT’s holistic project approaches in the fields of health, gender equality, and ecological agriculture align with values of SA4D.

One main aspect of MOCTs work is the revival of the Zunde raMambo system. Zunde is a traditional social security system providing protection against food shortages to vulnerable families and is coordinated by the chiefs. Members of the community come together on chief’s land and grow food that is later distributed to community members, especially older persons, orphans, widows and people with disabilities. The voluntary participation in the Zunde system helps to sharpen the community’s sense of belonging and identity.

SA4D and MOCT are currently implementing a joint program on sustainable agroforestry and entrepreneurship for a healthy and equal future for girls and young women in Zimbabwe.
