The planet has 7 billion inhabitants. One in two is younger than 25 years old.
Global challenges such as poverty, destruction of the environment, inequality, conflicts and injustice have a particularly strong effect on children and young people. They are the future – and therefore also the key to tackling the challenging tasks.
Towards a sustainable future with children and young people
That’s why SA4D empowers children and young people to develop and to work together on the environment and society of tomorrow, as set out in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. And what is more, in our projects we contribute to children and young people playing a leading role in the process of sustainable development.
To do this, we:
- Empower children and young people to exploit their potential as responsible members of their communities. We build the skills that they need in life, for example, we develop children and young people’s self-confidence, and encourage them to resolve conflicts peacefully.
- Develop future prospects for children and young people in the areas of health, education and employment. We provide them with the specific knowledge and skills that they need to fulfil their potential.
- Put environmental sustainability at the fore in all our projects. We ensure children and young people are aware of the value and urgency of sustainable behaviour.
Strengthening people as a whole
SA4D’s approach is holistic. That means that we do not deal with people independently of their surroundings. On the contrary – we include a wide range of local actors as partners in our projects.
We are also very aware that health, education and employment are interconnected: for example, a sick person cannot go to school. That’s why we coordinate our support so that we strengthen each person (and their environment) as a whole. Full evaluation of the activities is part of the holistic approach.
SA4D is a competence centre in the area of sport and development. We use the diverse opportunities offered by sport and play to reach our goals.
